Last Night…

Last Night when I got home from work I took my boyfriend and we went to the store so that I could buy weight watchers food and just some other healthy things that I can eat. He doesn’t really agree with what I’m doing because he doesn’t want me to loose weight but he still encourages me the best he can. I finally feel like I am really taking this seriously because I actually went out and bought my own food and I picked it out so that I have something for breakfast, lunch and dinner and I even got some of those 100 calorie snack packs just in case. I guess the only thing that I still have yet to understand is how my weight can fluctuate so much. I was 196 yesterday and then last night I was 197 so I just decided that I would weight myself this morning for my weigh in and now I am 193. My weight does this all the time it goes from high to low constantly and I will loose 10lbs and then gain it slowly back and I have no idea what to do. Basically I weigh 193 right now at 9:32 in the morning but after I eat food I will gain weight back and then i’ll exercise and loose the weight I gained and then weight 193 again.

Pick a time to weigh. I suggest morning, it’s more encouraging. Your pjs don’t weigh much and they are about the same each morning. Shoes, sweats, jeans, can add a lot and vary a lot.

You are also young. I found when I was young my weight could vary 5 + pounds a day. Vegetables and fruits have a lot of water in them. They weigh more. If you have a high veggie/fruit day the water weighs and will be, ahem, likely gone by morning.

Sometimes one high calorie/carb day will rev you metabolism and wow you really drop. Generally creeps back up a bit.

    Just my experience.

Don’t fret too much about the scale. Do your clothes fit. Muscle weighs more as you know.

Your food and water have weight. Think about it. 16 ounces is a pound. Drink 16 ounces of water, and voila, you’ve added a pound. That is why experts tell you to only weigh yourself once a day at the same time, usually in the morning before you have consumed anything. Then don’t even THINK about the scale until tomorrow morning because all that fuel you have to have to keep you moving has MASS and it shows up on the scale. Don’t sabotage yourself that way. Stay off the scale except that ONE TIME!

Thank you for the support…I will def. start only weighing myself in the morning. I think the thing that discourages me the most is like yarrow said muscle weighs more than fat and that makes me so angry cuz i just wish i could get rid of all my muscle even though I know I can’t. But yes thank you for the support it helps a ton.

Becareful with the snack packs and the wieght watchers foods, although they make it easy and i started the same way they are packed with carb’s and not healthy carb’s. The calories from the snack packs are useless calories, they have no nutritional value to your body, great for a once in a while snack but I wouldn’t eat them daily. Fresh fruit and veggies, yogurt…are healthy snacks that are low in calories but have good nutritional values. Learning how to eat is very very difficult when our world is swamped with so many options and we are not taught what is good and what is not. Sparkpeople has an excellent nutrition tracker, check it out, it helps you see where you need to up your nutrition and were you need to lessen it. This is a life change, a healthy way of life, not a diet. Don’t wiegh yourself all the time, you will become obsessed with that number and it will cause you to fail. I hardly ever wiegh myself(maybe 2-3x in the past two months)I measure my success by how well I eat that day and how much I exercised. Getting rid of your muscle would be devastating to your wieght, with no muscle you would have nothing to burn calories and would for sure become fat. I think you need to do some research on a healthy wieght for you and healthy foods. Exercise is your bestfriend when it comes to changing your body, the more muscle you build the more fuel your body burns and the more wieght you will lose. It takes time, lots of it, one pound of fat is gained by eating over 3500 extra calories, which you cannot do in one day, that means to lose a pound you have to burn and take in 3500 less calories again not something you can do in a day. It takes about a week of bad eating and no exercise to gain a pound or two so in turn that is about all you can lose in a week. You need good nutrition for strength, stamina, and energy for the exercise you will need to do to burn those calories. Check out sparkpeople and friend request Mark here on buddyslim, he is a trainer and good for answering your questions. Good luck to you, you can do it.

oh yeh, remember no one knows that number on the scale but you. What others see is your shape and health. remember that when you think you dont want that muscle cause it wieghs more than fat. Muscle is much more attractive than fat and no one walks around with a scale asking you to climb on so they can measure your appearance by the number it displays.

I weigh only one a week. There is too much variance from day to day. If it upsets you to see a gain, try not to weigh every day. If you have to, then accept the fact that so many things influence your daily weight….. it’s not like you eat one pound and poop one pound. There is how much you move, how much you sweat, how much salt you take in, fiber… weighs more but gets things moving, even how you sleep and how much stress you experience; these things all factor into how much you lose. I used to weigh several times a day, but then if it was up my mood went down, if it was down my mood went up…. guess what? I was moody. lol ! So, I sold my scale. Now, every Sat. morning, after I go to the bathroom, before I eat breakfast, I go across the drive to my daughter’s house, weigh naked (no I don’t streak, I strip when I get safely shut in her bathroom) and that is my only weigh in for the week. I helps keep me on track, especially on Thurs, and Fri, just knowing my weigh in day is coming…. OH Yeah, muscle does weigh more, but it also burns more calories, so in the long run you’ll be better off.

I only weigh in once a week as well, the same time, the same day, every week. That way I know the number is as accurate as it can be at that moment. I would def cut down to once a week so you have a gage to go by, but keep weighing yourself weekly for motivation. I am in the same boat as you so let me know if you need anything! And ps, those 100 calorie snacks are GREAT when the boyfriend wants dessert after dinner or a mid day snack. YOu can eat with him, but not feel bad about it. Good luck!

Weight fluctuation throughout the day like that is perfectly normal, it happens to us all. Think of it this way…when you wake up in the morning your body has no food or drinks in it so it’s going to weigh less. As you go through your day eating and drinking your weight is going to go up. Pick one time of day to weigh and go by that. Really you shouldn’t way yourself more than once a week, but I like to weigh in each morning because I just feel it helps me stay focused. But, I do know that weight can fluctuate so often that I don’t keep track of my weight except for once a week.

I think it’s great that your boyfriend is supporting you even though he doesn’t want you to lose weight! :o)

I try to weigh only once a week, but definetely as many others noted, once a day -preferrably in the morning.

My man doesn’t agree with me losing weight too but they have to go along with it don’t they?

    Good luck!
